Walking
through a gorgeous park through Beijing you’ll see several things: old people
playing games, ladies with their sun umbrellas, dogs without leashes and
pooping babies. The dogs and the pooping babies are two things that I found
very different than America. Not only did the dogs look different, they acted
different. They had as many varieties of dogs as we do but they were all the
same shape of short legs and a long body, like they were all breed with a dachshund.
They also acted different because their owners treated them differently. They
never wore leashes and they did and went wherever they want, but strangely,
they were more behaved than dogs that we keep on a strict leash here.
But
even with all the wondering dogs, it wasn’t dog poop you had to look out for,
it was baby poop. Children never wore diapers, instead they wore pants with
slits in them. When a parent would notice that they had to go, they would hold
them, butt out, and let them poop next to a tree. This site was seen too often. Several times I would be in a
very public place and look down to see a little girl peeing next me. While it
saved a lot of dirty diapers, it was extremely unpleasant.
