Tour of Switch

Last Week I took a tour of Switch, a branding company that was started by Anheuser Bush. They create new solutions to market their clients. Most of their work, or most of what I was shown was print work: Signs, environmental design and wrapping trailer and trucks. They have big clients such as Coca Cola, Budweiser and Vitamin Water and so their studio is big. Actually, their studio is HUGE. One room that is dedicated just to environmental design is already bigger than most studios and their studios include spaces for print design, interactive design, motion graphics, marketing, human recourses. There is also a studio for creating audio, a workshop in the back that can hold trailers and a warehouse in the back that contains any equipment that their clients would ever need for an event.Their main concern is creating a marketing strategy that gets the name of the company out there best. For most of their clients, interactive design seemed to be the least of their concerns. They only create iPad apps  or motion graphics if there is a true need. They always start with print design and advertising.
They did most of the talking and their advice was to have a good grasp of the concept of all types of scripting and then really focus my energy onto one thing (which would be design in my case).
I'm glad I did this tour because it made it more clear for me on what type of design firm I would like to work for. While Switch was a very impressive place, I would prefer to work at a place that is smaller and focuses more energy into Interactive design.
